THE SHORTY HOTEL, RESTAURANT, CAFÉ AND BAR

An old ceramics warehouse from the 1890s, Shorter House is in the centre of the CBD. The building’s history inspires a unique authentic narrative for interiors and branding alike. The branding system is designed to be modular using ceramic maker’s marks, bold typography and a contemporary take on ceramic botanical illustrations. The interiors’ EQ colour palette will be complemented through marketing and website with the use of brave and bold colour combinations to create an aspirational destination for guests and locals.

GLAZE, BAR / BISTRO

At the top of the building, above a repurposed pottery warehouse, is where the exotic beauty of ceramics will be celebrated. Also, with a nod to ceramic artist, Lulu Shorter’s travels with her father to places like China, England and India to discover new patterns and ceramic traditions. In stark contrast to the moody Speakeasy, here the vibe is an upbeat salon — layered, glossy, colourful and elegant — where you might tap on your laptop by day, then shout-whisper into your date’s ear by night. A cherry on the top, the perfect roost, the place to see and be seen …

COPPER BAR

Riffing off the history of Shorter House (The Shorty) in a Speakeasy-style basement bar, we conjure up the world of unfired clay whilst offering cocktails served in curious ceramic vessels by bartenders in potters’ leather aprons. Patrons will enter through an alley way and makes their way into the heart of a kiln. Copper plates are traditionally used in the decoration of porcelain and copper is featured throughout the bar adding warmth and glamour to it deconstructed and raw interiors.
