FLIPP AGENCY

Creative agency website development for a leading roster of Australian photographers, directors and stylists.

FLIPP represented an exceptional roster of Australian photographers, directors and stylists working across advertising, editorial, motion and commercial production. Its artists included Hugh Stewart, Irenaeus Herok, Jem Cresswell, Murray Fredericks, Rob Palmer, Sibella Court and Emma Knowles, among other established names in Australian image-making.

Ludbrook Agency designed and developed a custom WordPress website for FLIPP, creating a distinctive digital platform for its roster of Australian photographers, directors and stylists. The project combined creative agency website development with an image-led portfolio system designed for art directors, producers, brands and commissioners.

The resulting site combined large-scale imagery, individual artist portfolios, category-based browsing and an expressive visual language that reflected FLIPP’s personality. It was website development for a creative agency where the quality of the work demanded more than a conventional portfolio template.

The Challenge

Giving every artist room to remain individual.

Construction Assignments had already been through a frustrating process before they came to us. They needed more than a standard corporate website. They needed a creative partner who could understand the nuance of the business: technically capable, commercially serious, but also warm, direct and full of character.

The site needed to present Construction Assignments as a highly experienced client-side project management consultancy while avoiding the dry, generic language often used in the construction and property sector. It also needed to support a growing body of project updates, team content, news and service information, giving the internal team a platform that could evolve with the business.

For a company working across complex construction and development projects, clarity mattered. The website needed to help prospective clients understand the breadth of the team’s expertise, the quality of their project experience and the strength of their client relationships.

The Idea

Break the conventions of the category.

Many representation websites rely on a quiet grid and allow the imagery to do all the work. FLIPP wanted something less predictable. The site needed to communicate the character of the agency as clearly as it presented the artists.

We developed a graphic system that could interrupt the expected rhythm of an online portfolio without interfering with the work. Artist names change typographic treatment across the site, while punctuation, brackets, symbols and shifts in scale give the interface a sense of movement. Large homepage images establish the calibre and range of the roster immediately.

The design is expressive, but its structure remains disciplined. Navigation gives direct access to every photographer, director and stylist, while category pages create connections between work by different artists. This balance was central to the creative agency website design: distinct enough to be remembered, but clear enough to function as a working resource for the advertising industry.

The Website

Built for image-led portfolios and active representation.

Each artist has a dedicated profile where large-format photography or motion can be viewed without unnecessary explanation. The website also allows individual projects to appear within broader categories, giving visitors more than one way to encounter the work.

The custom WordPress build gave FLIPP control over its artist roster, portfolios, news and agency content. New work could be added as campaigns were released, and the site could accommodate artists with different quantities, formats and styles of material.

Careful treatment of desktop and mobile layouts was essential. A site built around high-resolution commercial imagery must retain its visual impact on a smaller screen without becoming slow or difficult to use. The mobile experience was designed as part of the system rather than as a reduced version of the desktop site.

The About section carried FLIPP’s candid, irreverent voice, while the portfolio pages remained focused on the artists. That separation allowed the personality of the agency to come through without competing with the work it represented.

The Outcome

Built for image-led portfolios and active representation.

The completed website gave FLIPP a recognisable digital identity in a sector where many competitors followed a similar visual formula. It presented some of Australia’s leading creative talent within a structure that was useful to agencies, brands, producers and commissioners, while giving each artist enough space to remain distinct.

FLIPP has since announced the conclusion of its artist-management and production operations, however everyone loves the website so much that is it now maintained as a portal for direct contact with the featured artists.
