DKC Architecture

Website design and custom WordPress development for DKC Architecture, a Sydney-based architecture practice with more than 30 years of residential, commercial and hospitality work.

DKC Architecture is an established Sydney-based practice with more than 30 years of experience and a reputation for timeless Australian architecture. Their work is contemporary yet enduring, with projects shaped by quality, context, materiality and a deep understanding of the Australian landscape.

For this project, Ludbrook Agency designed and built a new architecture portfolio website that could present decades of work in a clear, elegant and highly visual way. The challenge was not a lack of projects, but the opposite: a large body of work photographed over many years, in many formats, and to very different standards.

The Challenge

Presenting decades of architectural work with uneven photography.

DKC Architecture had an extensive archive of completed projects, including residential homes, coastal properties, mountain retreats, apartments, hospitality projects and multi-residential work. The practice had a strong reputation and a substantial body of work, but much of the available photography dated back more than 20 years. Some images were professionally shot, while others were lower resolution, inconsistently framed, or no longer aligned with the quality of the architecture itself.

This created a specific challenge for the website design. A conventional architecture portfolio website depends heavily on consistent photography. If the image treatment is uneven, the whole site can feel inconsistent, even when the work itself is strong.

The new website needed to elevate the archive without pretending every image came from the same period or production standard. It needed to give DKC Architecture a refined digital presence while respecting the authenticity of the practice and the breadth of its work.

The goal was to create a website that felt calm, intelligent and timeless — a digital portfolio that reflected the quality of the architecture rather than drawing attention to the limitations of older source material.

The Approach

A restrained visual system designed around the work.

Our approach was to create a website design system that could bring consistency to a very varied image library. Rather than relying on oversized full-bleed photography throughout, we developed a more considered portfolio structure using careful cropping, controlled layouts, generous spacing and a refined visual rhythm.

This allowed older and newer projects to sit together more comfortably. Stronger images could lead the experience, while more difficult images could still be included in a way that felt intentional and balanced.

Kirsty also undertook extensive image post-production, working through key project imagery to improve tone, clarity, balance and presentation. This was particularly important where the original files were dated, inconsistent or technically limited. The post-production process helped bring the archive into a more cohesive visual language without over-processing the images or making them feel artificial.

The result is a website that feels architectural in its own right: structured, quiet, functional and visually precise.

Website Design and Development

A custom WordPress website for an architecture practice.

The DKC Architecture website was designed and built as a custom WordPress website, giving the practice a flexible platform for presenting projects, publishing news and updating content over time. The site includes a curated project portfolio, individual project pages, practice content, news and contact pathways.

For an architecture firm website, clarity of navigation is critical. Visitors need to move easily between project types, understand the calibre of the work, and quickly form a sense of the practice’s design values. The DKC website uses a simple structure that allows the portfolio to do the heavy lifting, supported by concise written content and a calm interface.

The homepage introduces the practice through the line “Timeless Australian Architecture”, followed by a clear description of DKC’s experience, design ethos and commitment to enduring architecture. This positioning gave us a strong foundation for the design: the website needed to feel confident, established and quietly contemporary, rather than trend-driven.

The final site presents DKC Architecture as an experienced Australian architecture practice with a substantial archive of built work, while making the browsing experience feel simple and elegant.

The Outcome

A cohesive architecture portfolio website with clarity and restraint.

The completed website gives DKC Architecture a more refined and effective digital presence. It brings together more than three decades of work in a way that feels consistent, considered and easy to navigate.

Most importantly, the site solves the core visual challenge. By combining a restrained design system with careful image selection, cropping and post-production, the website allows projects from different periods to sit together as part of one coherent practice story. The older photography no longer undermines the quality of the architecture. Instead, the archive feels curated, substantial and authentic.

The client’s testimonial reflects this outcome, noting the site’s “simplicity, elegance, and intelligence” and the balance between Kirsty’s visual clarity and Richard’s development work.

For Ludbrook Agency, the project is a strong example of website design for architects and architecture portfolio website design where the value was not only in the look of the site, but in solving a real content and presentation problem.
